We recognise that Mathematical fluency is a combination of knowledge of the number system, a range of calculation methods, shape, measure and data, underpinned by the ability to reason and talk about Mathematics. Our aim is to ensure that every child develops to their full potential in all of these strands.
We encourage a partnership between home and academy in the development of all strands of Mathematics and ask parents to grasp every opportunity to complete everyday mathematical tasks with their children, such as adding a shopping bill or sharing objects between people. We also encourage parents with children who are in KS2 to practise times table recall with them every night.
In KS1 we endeavour to build a secure knowledge and understanding of what numbers are worth and their place value before introducing more formal calculation methods. Opportunities to reason and talk about Mathematics are provided in all lessons.
