At Woodnewton we are always looking for ways to enhance teaching and learning. Whilst your child is attending Woodnewton, we actively encourage a close partnership between home and school. Evidence suggests parents who engage in their child's learning leads to better outcomes for him/her. Some of the ways in which you can become actively involved in your child's learning are by: Attending parent's evening, supporting your child with class assemblies, reading regularly with your child at home, volunteering to accompany children on school visits, joining baking and reading sessions in school and sharing information with school about your child's well-being

Promoting Community Cohesion

At Woodnewton we have a team working in the community. The role of our Community Team includes working within school with parents/carers supporting them to access different agencies when necessary. Community Team workers may support a family in the home where the need has been identified. Our role includes working out in the community, providing activities for families at venues within our reach area. Our Community Team can also signpost different groups that are available as part of our Community programme. Working alongside the Community Team in school we also have the unique facility of a School Social Worker, who is able to offer support to families in a preventative (non-statutory) manner. Our School Social Worker works with families that find themselves in a variety of circumstances and is also able to provide mediation sessions where necessary. Parents are welcomed to approach any member of the community team listed below by coming into school or by telephone through our school office if this is more convenient. Community Room Steering Group

The Steering Group is a pro-active partnership of professionals and community volunteers sharing a common language in their leadership and strategic direction of the community room. The group has a shared vision and is committed to looking after the interests of child and adult. Members of the group are enthusiastic and have a wide range of experience, knowledge and life skills suited to the demands of the community. Through effective communication and listening skills we aim to provide the appropriate support and opportunities for children and parents. If you would like to be part of this group we meet three times a year in the Community Room. The Community Room is a welcoming environment offering parents a place to meet other parents on an equal footing in a non-judgemental, non-threatening setting. High regard is placed on opportunities to talk and to be listened to. The Community Room offers activities for everyone supported by approachable staff, volunteers and mentors with shared vision. The Community Room activities are child-centred, informed by early years research, CoolTalk and supported by well-chosen resources. The support on offer to parents is enhanced by strong links with outside agencies including Social Care, Midwives and Health Visitors. Children are encouraged to develop their skills of socialization and creativity through a range of experiences including creative play and trips in an atmosphere of fun and enjoyment.
