Our SEMH Provision Vision Statement

At The View, Woodnewton, we are passionate about all children achieving the very best possible educational and social & emotional outcomes.  We believe in high ambitions for all the children who attend our specialist provision.  It is our fundamental ethos to provide a supportive and modelled approach based on the requirements of each child to ensure that their individual needs are fully met and every child returns to their mainstream setting after their time with us equipped with the best possible techniques and skills to achieve their full potential.

We always endeavour to offer strategies and provisions to improve attendance, progress and outcomes together with evaluating next steps for cognition & learning and communication & interaction.  Each child is unique and we celebrate and nurture their talents and interest whilst providing a nurturing, caring, safe and secure learning environment within which children are respected, listened to and valued.  We understand that all behaviour is a form of communication and will always strive to support children to overcome any challenges they are experiencing within our limitations.

Our specialist nurture provision caters for up to 8 children in KS1.  It is dedicated support for children who require additional input in regards to social, emotional & behaviour needs (without having an EHCP).  Our pupils remain on role with their mainstream setting and attend our provision for 4 full days (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 9.00am to 3.00pm), spending a full Thursday in their mainstream class.  A key part of our role is foster self-esteem and resilience; we achieve this by using a wide range of strategies which are personalised to the individual child, combined with lots of opportunities to engage in whole-class activities such as game-playing and turn-taking.

Our curriculum is based on the National Curriculum level for the child’s best fit together with interventions based on their individual needs;  we have a weekly theme on which activities are based eg ‘World Ocean Day’ or a school-based theme eg ‘Respect’.
