Welcome to our nursery provision here at Woodnewton a learning community. We are fortunate to have an amazing facility incorporated within our main school building, so not only do the children who attend belong to our nursery, they belong to our Woodnewton family as a whole.

We are firmly in the Autumn season and have been looking closely at the changes around us, changes in the environment and exploring natural products such as conkers, pine cones, squashes and pumpkins.
A huge 'Thank you' to Asda for their generous donation of pumpkins and carving tools for FS1 children to use. The children had a great time of exploration. Initially they hammered golf tees into the pumpkins, an activity which helps to develop fine motor skills, coordination and requires a great deal of concentration. Later, the children had the opportunity to explore what was inside the pumpkins. They used hands and scoops to scrape out the seeds and discover how the pumpkin flesh looked and felt to touch, with children expressing a variety of opinions on whether or not they liked the slimy pumpkin flesh and seeds. Finally, the children drew faces on pumpkins and under close adult supervision, used sharper tools to carve out the spooky faces. What a lot of learning and a lot of fun!
Recently, in Foundation Stage One, we had a visit from Sarah and Faith, a Dental Hygienist and Dental Nurse from Ise Lodge Dental Clinic (Kettering). They came to talk to us about how we can look after our teeth. They talked about how important it is to look after our teeth and they were really pleased to hear that we all brush our teeth twice a day. Sarah recommended that we brush our teeth for two minutes each time. She brought a giant sand timer with her to demonstrate just how long two minutes is – some of us thought it felt like a long time!
We had a chance to practise our brushing skills on some cuddly toys, making sure that we brushed using circular movements!
We had a go at making a ‘healthy tooth’ craft and also dressing up as a dentist and dental nurse!
A huge thank you to Sarah and Faith and to Ise Lodge Dental Clinic, for their fun and educational talk, plus the free toothbrush/toothpaste samples, information leaflets and tooth brushing challenge!
